Simple home remedies to look beautiful

1. Liquefy the inside pulp of fresh aloe vera without water and apply to the roots of your hair. Leave it on for an hour; repeat this once week. This is a good conditioner and also helps arrest dandruff and falling hair.

2. Grate a fresh coconut, mixed with very little milk; strain well. Apply this with the help of cotton wool over the roots and hair. Leave to soak for an hour - this is excellent for dry hair and gives the additional protein and

3. Boil red hibiscus flowers in coconut oil (eight flowers for half a kilo of oil), cool and store. Apply this once a week. Also, smoothly grind the green leaves of the hibiscus plant with a little water and applied on the oiled hair. This helps darken the hair.

4. A paste of hibiscus flower, directly applied to the scalp of a baby can improve hair growth considerably.

5. Soak a tea spoon of fenugreek (methi) in water overnight. Grind the puffed up seeds to a paste and apply to the roots and hair. This will control itching and dandruff. Lime juice with honey applied externally also helps. .

6. The soapnut or sheekakai traditionally used in South India is an excellent substitute for shampoo. Remove the seeds, powder and boil in water. Once cooled, use this to wash the oil and dirt from your hair, naturally.

7. In addition to these traditional recommendations, do use a little conditioner in the final Rinse. Always do this only in warm water note that hot water reduces the value of the conditioner.

8. Soak almonds (badam) overnight Peel the brown skin and put under the fan till it is perfectly dry. Grind it and put on a stove till a little oil oozes out. Take an equal amount of gram flour (besan) to this. Mix them well and grind again. Keep this paste in an air tight glass container and refrigerate. Use a quarter tea spoon of this paste mixed with two tea spoons of milk to apply on the face. Let this stay for 15 minutes, as a daily ritual.

9. Take the juice from an equal amount of tomato and cucumber - about three quarters of a tea spoon. Mix this with one tea spoon of besan or sorghum (jowar) and apply on the face. Keep for 15 minutes before washing it off.

10. Make a paste of fresh haldi, neem leaves and badam with cucumber juice. Add beasan or semolina (rava), and apply on the face. Add besan or semolina (rava), and apply on the face. A paste of rava with curd is good for removing those summer tans.

11. Mix three tea spoons each of lime juice, honey and butter and apply on the face, neck, hands and feet once a week. Keep this for 20 minutes during which time you can complete your pranayama or a couple yoga assans, if your are into yoga.

12. A wonderful daily scrub is made by powdering three cups of green gram with one cup of rice. Keep the container in the bath, and use instead of soap.
